It took me over a year to understand just how good this system was. It is the performance sports car on the block. I have worked and had access to ‘Intel’ systems in various countries worldwide, and NIA is by far the best I have seen.
All calls to police are logged onto the system. Officers report the results to cases on the system and thinks like Nominals, Venues, Vehicles and many more are linked immediately. As an investigation tool it is outstanding and you can even prepare your case papers on the system; which allows others to view someone’s history.
Intel is only as reliable as the officer putting that information in. Training, or lack of it, is probably the main reason the officer will not update the system. When the officer has confidence, Intel and alerts can go on when it matters.
We are now equipped with i-phones and I-pads, which introduces other levels of Intel. We can update the system immediately, but GPS alerts us as to potential dangers as we pass addresses.
Combine this with the fact that all NZ police officers are firearms trained and cars ‘run hot.’ We have the capability to arm from the safe when the need arises.
The UK need to wipe the slate clean on the approach to Intel. Scrap the old systems, equip the officers and give serious consideration to enabling officers to arm if and when they see fit.
The Deehan familyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09315409623999992323noreply@blogger.com
